SAN ANTONIO, TX, MAY 12, 2009: According to the American Heart Association more than 900 people in the United States die every day due to sudden cardiac arrest. Death from a sudden cardiac arrest is not inevitable. The use of CPR and defibrillators, also known as AED’s, has saved the lives of millions of people. It is estimated that ninety-five percent (95%) of sudden cardiac arrest victims die before reaching the hospital without basic CPR. Permanent brain damage due to cardiac arrest can occur in as little as six minutes if no CPR or defibrillation occurs during that time. When provided immediate CPR or defibrillation after a cardiac arrest, people can double their chances of survival.
